Yet many ultimately return to white and that’s not usually due to a lack of imagination! Since fitted furniture becomes a long-term part of a room, white gives people confidence that the design will continue to work for the years to come, regardless of if they redecorate or the purpose of the room changes.

White Makes a Large Piece of Furniture Feel Quieter

A fitted wardrobe can cover an entire wall. Even a beautiful door colour therefore has more visual impact than a painted feature wall or a bedside table, for example. Pale finishes reduce that visual weight, especially when the fitted wardrobes run from floor to ceiling. In a compact bedroom, white doors can help the furniture blend into pale walls and create a more continuous backdrop. In a larger room, the same colour can look crisp, intentional and architectural. Add a shaped door, a considered cornice, a contrasting handle or a mirrored panel and the result can be traditional, contemporary or somewhere between the two! Is White Always the Best Choice?

In short, no! In a very bright room with white walls and pale flooring, another large white surface can feel flat unless texture, door detail or warmer materials are introduced.
