Dressing room with a totally tropical twist

How we helped interiors stylist and writer Laurie Davidson create a dressing room of her dreams.

With an extensive career as an interior stylist and an editor on leading homes magazines such as Style At Home, when Laurie Davidson aka @lifeofaninteriorstylist came to us to help her create the dressing room of her dreams we knew that the finished room would be something special.

 Before ….

Laurie was using her spare room to store clothes and accessories on a rail but she wanted to create a dedicated and organised space with lots more storage, a sleek designer finish and the flexibility to use it as a guest bedroom as and when she needed it.

Working with Laurie to plan her dressing room

Our My Fitted Bedroom designer visited Laurie in her Surrey-based home to understand what Laurie was hoping to achieve with her dressing room makeover and to work through the ideas to get a final plan.

Maximising every inch of space in the room was absolutely crucial for Laurie, so our designer created a floor to ceiling horseshoe design using three walls of the room.

Inside the fitted wardrobes they came up with a combination of double hanging, single hanging, internal drawers and shelves – a configuration which meant that Laurie had ample room for organising and storing all of her clothes. For the exterior she chose our brand new sleek and modern Luna doors in Clover green – one of the trending interiors colours of 2022.

But that’s not all. Laurie added an island unit in white, to provide yet more storage and as a feature in the room that contrasted with the deep green fitted wardrobe doors. Casters were added to the unit so that it could be easily moved around the room or that it could be placed against a wall to make room for a guest bed.

Laurie’s top tip

Before your design visit lay out everything that you want to store in your wardrobes. Be ruthless and get rid of anything that you no longer wear or need and then work out how much single versus double hanging space you need and what can be stored in drawers. This will mean that you get the very most from your internal fittings and they are completely bespoke to your needs.

Laurie’s dressing room – designed by us, styled by Laurie

We think you’ll agree that Laurie’s finished dressing room looks amazing. The Luna doors are sleek and modern and the Clover is bang on trend whilst still remaining the perfect neutral base colour to build an interior theme around.

And wow – all of that storage means that her clothes are now perfectly organised … no more messy rails in sight!

Laurie’s finishing touches look fabulous in the rest of the space.

She chose a dramatic tropical print wallpaper which complemented the green wardrobes perfectly, whilst a bamboo ladder, wooden console table and statement mirror completed the look.

LED lights above the wardrobe doors add another great feature within the room.
