What Questions Should You Be Asking When Buying a Fitted Wardrobe?

We know that buying a fitted wardrobe is a big decision! It’s not just about the money (however, that is super important too), but it’s about creating something that will work for you, your space and your lifestyle. At My Fitted Bedroom, our years of experience has shown us that asking the right questions and understanding the answers, makes a massive difference to customer satisfaction! So, here’s some things you might like to know…

Measuring Up Fitted Wardrobes

First things first; measurements!  To prevent any errors, we send an expert fitter to your home to measure your space properly; checking for wonky walls, awkward skirting boards or ceiling slopes. We know that older houses especially (and some new builds!) have quirks, so we want to make sure we acknowledge them and work around them.

Our fitters are on hand to answer any questions whilst at your home – feel free to ask how they handle problems that may occur during the work? How long it will take to install a fitted wardrobe? Have a think about the future too – will you be able to change your carpet in the years to come? What are the best tips for redecorating around fitted wardrobes?

Fitted Wardrobe Designs That Works for You

The inside of your fitted wardrobe matters just as much as how it looks on the outside. Have a proper think about what you need it to store – how much hanging space do you need? Where will your shoes go? Do you have selves for folded clothes or drawers for socks?

As well as this, lighting makes a massive difference! You’ll be amazed how much easier it is to find things with proper LED lighting on the inside; it’s definitely worth asking about, even if it costs a little bit extra.

Plus, have you considered the hardware? What will the handles and hinges look like? Will they match other fixtures and fittings in your room? Then there are the doors… sliding wardrobe doors don’t take up much space, which is perfect for smaller rooms, however you can’t see the full contents of your wardrobe all at once at once. Hinged doors swing outwards, taking a little more space, but you’ll get full access. There’s no right answer; it just depends on you, your room and how you use your wardrobe.

What are Fitted Wardrobes Made From?

Be sure to ask our fitters about the materials used to create our wardrobes! Perhaps ask their thoughts on the different finishes too? Painted MDF is popular and hardwearing, wood veneer looks great, but can be a little more expensive, whilst high-gloss finishes show fingerprints easily, but are super quick to clean – think about what you can live with day-to-day?

Feel free to ask for recommendations of what colours and finishes work well together – our expert fitters have seen hundreds of fitted wardrobes in a whole host of homes and can absolutely let you know their thoughts of colours, styles and finishes that work well together.

Fitted Wardrobe Installation Process

Be sure to ask how long the installation will take, whether you will need to be home and how much disruption there will be – remember to include how long it takes to make your fitted wardrobe (which may be a few weeks) and how long it takes to actually fit it in your home – you absolutely want to ensure you have realistic timescales and are working with a company that will stick to them!

Whilst there can be some dust and noise during installation, our fitters will clean up any mess that’s made! Ask them how they’ll protect your room and the rest of your house whilst moving things inside? Understand whether they can take away an old wardrobe and what happens with the packaging? It’s always worth checking.

The Cost of Fitted Wardrobes

Make sure you know exactly what you are paying for! Is everything included? Design, measuring, manufacture, fitting; the works? Or are there any extras that will bump up the price?

Do you need to pay in full? Is a deposit required? Or are finance options offered?

Ask about the warranty of your new fitted wardrobes too, as a good quality fitted wardrobe company will guarantee their work for a number of years, not months.

Getting Your Fitted Wardrobes Right

Have you checked reviews and testimonials? It’s important to understand other customers real life experiences. If these are good, your fitted wardrobe company will be happy to share them, if they’re not already public.

Like with anything, we don’t advise just ‘going with the cheapest quote’; a fitted wardrobe that breaks within a year or doesn’t work properly from the off, is definitely not a bargain. Consider the whole package, so you’re sure exactly what you’re getting for your money!
