How to Transform an Awkward Shaped Bedroom with Bespoke Fitted Wardrobes

For the past few months, interiors lover Kerrie Steadman (@kerriemariehome) has been hard at work completing her daughter’s bedroom makeover — and the finishing touch was always going to be a bespoke fitted wardrobe that was both beautiful and practical.
But getting to that point wasn’t easy. The space came with a design challenge – an awkward chimney breast in the corner of the bedroom that had already caused a few renovation headaches. “We actually tried to knock it through to square off the room,” explained Kerrie, “but we ended up putting a hole in the wall and had to put it back!”
So, instead of fighting the room’s shape, Kerrie decided to work with it — and that’s where My Fitted Bedroom came in.

Bringing the Design to Life
Kerrie and her daughter had previously made do with a large freestanding Ikea wardrobe. While functional, it dominated the space and didn’t make the best use of the tricky corner layout.
“I just knew that a custom fitted wardrobe would fit this space perfectly,” said Kerrie. So, she booked a free design visit and one of our expert designers came out to measure the space and discuss how to make the most of the tricky layout.
Together, we designed a clever L-shaped, made-to-measure fitted wardrobe from our stunning Elise range. The clever design seamlessly wraps around the corner of the room (and chimney breast) — extending from the doorway right across to the window — with an integrated chest of drawers for extra storage.
“They took measurements, showed me samples, colours, and handle choices — and really brought the design to life,” Kerrie continued. “The main issue was the chimney breast behind the wardrobe, so we talked in detail about how it would look internally and how we could make the space work efficiently.”

A Design That Fits Beautifully
At first glance, it looks like a simple corner wardrobe, but it’s so much more than that – the design is actually concealing the chimney breast behind it. Inside, there’s a mix of hanging space and shelving, all tailored to Kerrie’s daughter’s needs. The finished look really makes the most of every inch of space and the mirrored door reflects light to make the room look bigger.
“I think you’ll agree this looks so much better than the big, bulky wardrobe we had before,” Kerrie said. “It’s opened up the room and feels so much more spacious.”
This bespoke fitted wardrobe not only hides an awkward feature but also transforms the entire room — proof that with the right design, every inch of space can be beautiful and functional. Clever design. Perfect fit. Beautifully bespoke.

The Finishing Touches
To complete the look, Kerrie chose beautiful gold handles – a subtle but striking detail that ties in perfectly with the room’s soft, feminine décor.
“This bedroom has been a work in progress for the majority of the year, and I can finally say that it is now complete,” Kerrie shared on her Instagram. “It’s turned out even better than I imagined and it looks absolutely perfect. Who knew it was so easy to hide a Chimney breast!”
The finished result is a stunning, space-efficient fitted wardrobe that transforms the feel of the room. It’s a perfect example of how My Fitted Bedroom designs can solve awkward layout challenges while elevating a room’s overall style.
