Blue-sky thinking: how to style your bedroom with Dulux’s Bright Skies

If you’re looking to freshen up your fitted bedroom with a new decor scheme then perhaps Dulux’s Colour of the Year 2022 ‘Bright Skies’ is now top of your list?

This ‘light and airy blue’ was chosen because it ‘perfectly captures the optimism and desire for a fresh start that is the mood of the moment’.

According to Dulux, Bright Skies represents a move towards more vibrant and lighter tones, in contrast to the earthy neutrals that have come before it (think 2021’s understated Brave Ground).

Here at My Fitted Bedroom we love this fresh, optimistic and versatile shade that can complement fitted wardrobes whether they’re walnut or dark oak, white or Classic Blue – and our design expert Megan explains how you can put blue-sky thinking the heart of your bedroom accessory styling and wall colour scheme.

Megan says: “Although at first glance the subtle hues of Bright Skies may seem a bit of a safe choice for 2022, I absolutely love the hope, happiness and positivity that it represents – and if styled correctly it can be used to really uplift your bedroom interiors no end. Imagine waking up every morning to a gorgeous summer’s day – that is the feeling that this colour can evoke.

“If you choose to go for a pale blue paint on your walls then you can add warmth and depth with fitted furniture and accessories.

“I particularly love the warmth of dark wood fitted wardrobes and matching bedside tables mixed with pale blue walls and bedding – with further warmth through the use of creamy beige.

Light grey fitted wardrobe doors can also work really well styled with pale blue walls and bedding.

Of course, you don’t need to re-paint your fitted bedroom to get that Bright Skies feeling! Adding a few new accessories and soft furnishings in this shade update an existing scheme for the coming year.

Rugs, bedding, artwork and throws are all really easy and cost-effective updates that can help you get that blue hue running throughout your room.

The subtle tones and texture of this rug would make a fantastic addition to a bedroom and will tie in with most existing colour schemes thanks to the neutral colour palette. Layering the bed with blue cushions and throws makes another easy update.

Adding subtle colour a windows is a great way of freshening up your scheme. We love how this pale blue blind that replicates a sunny sky. Or you could go for a statement piece of artwork with this dramatic wall art to add depth and texture to a blue scheme.
