How Bespoke Fitted Wardrobes Can Maximise Storage in a Period Home with Alcoves

When Sharn Rayment – known to her 100k+ Instagram community as @sharnshouse – swapped Essex for London in 2021, she also took on a huge whole-home period property renovation. Sharn and partner Neil bought a Victorian house that had been on the market for months, with an interior that hadn’t been touched in decades. But they could see the potential – original features, high ceilings, and bags of charm made it the perfect blank canvas for their colour-driven dream home vision.
What Sharn didn’t expect was that her ‘couple of years’ renovation plan would turn into a five-year labour of love. From restoring the staircase and original Victorian cast iron fireplaces to stripping, sanding, tiling and painting, the couple have have transformed a neglected shell into a vibrant and joyful home – almost entirely by themselves.
And now, after nine months hard work, Sharn’s bedroom reveal is finally here. Quirky, cool, and full of personality, the space is a celebration of Victorian character brought to life with contemporary creativity. At the heart of this transformation? Our Deco fitted wardrobes in Blush Pink, designed to solve a long-standing storage problem and maximise the incredible ceiling height.

Best fitted wardrobes for bedrooms with high ceilings
Like many period homes, Sharn’s bedroom came with beautiful proportions – and frustrating storage challenges. With 2.8m ceilings, a chimney breast, tight alcoves and minimal built-in solutions, Sharn and Neil had spent four years living out of cheap clothing rails and piles of shoes on the floor.
“We had height, but no structure,” Sharn explains. “We had alcoves, but nothing that maximised them. And we had so many clothes and shoes with nowhere for them to live!”
It was clear the space needed a tailored solution. Something that celebrated the architecture, embraced the height, and offered smart internal storage solutions.
And the answer was our stunning Deco wardrobes in blush pink featuring Art Deco-inspired fluting and beautifully refined lines for a modern-meets-heritage vibe.
Sharn chose our super height wardrobe doors to really make the most of the 2.8m ceiling. The built-in bedroom furniture was bespoke fitted around the chimney breast to use the alcoves to their full potential, resulting in an impressive amount of storage while showcasing the room’s original Victorian proportions.
“I love the vintage glamour of the fluting,” Sharn adds. “And the blush pink colour complements our bold olive-green walls beautifully.”
The result is a statement piece that feels meant for the room.

Smart Storage for Everyday Life
While the exterior brings the wow factor, it’s the internal storage that has changed daily life for Sharn and Neil. The pair opted for a mix of practical and luxurious features including: high-capacity clothes rails, sliding shoe shelves to bring order to the once-chaotic shoe collection, and compartments for organised accessories – with everything precisely tailored to their exact needs.
With the wardrobes installed, the rest of the bedroom came together effortlessly. The stunning blush pink wardrobes contrast softly against the olive walls, creating a rich, calming palette. A mix of vintage touches, warm brass hardware, and statement lighting completes the look perfectly.
The finished space feels serene, luxurious, and full of character – a fitting reward after such a demanding renovation journey.
“Behind all the pretty details are months of the hardest graft,” Sharn shared on Instagram. “But seeing this room now… it was worth every moment. The finish of the wardrobes, the colour, the way the light hits them is just perfect! This room wouldn’t be what it is without them.”
