Monochrome bedroom makeover
Instagram interiors influencer Carly Jones (@carlyshomeideas) is renowned for her love of monochrome, luxe interior styling and exacting eye for detail. So when it was time to give her master bedroom the ‘Carly’ treatment she knew that fitted bedroom furniture would give her those sleek, modern lines that she was Insta-famous for.
With a vast space to fill, we worked with Carly to create the ultimate fitted bedroom solution – with intelligent storage that spanned the entire width of her bedroom, as well as bespoke dressing area and matching bedside tables. The transformation is simply stunning. Here Carly shares more on the project.
Tell us more about your vision for the space …
Our bedroom is long and narrow – we had small built-in wardrobes but there was so much wasted space and we just knew that there was so much more that we could do with the room if we took them out and started again. The shape and size of the bedroom meant that we could run fitted wardrobes along the entire width of the space, which would create about four times the amount storage than we originally had.
We have lived in our home for seven years and this was the first time that we were embarking on a big project in the master bedroom so I was really excited to get stuck in. Alongside the fitted wardrobes, I also wanted to create my dream dressing table area in the space where one of the original wardrobes was placed.
How did you find the design process?
The home design visit was great and really helped to cement the ideas that I already had. The CAD showed just how much storage we could create by running the fitted furniture from floor to ceiling across the width of the room, covering a small existing window. To stop it being too blocky we broke up the wardrobes by creating an alcove to hang the TV with drawers underneath it. At the far end we opted for glass shelves to display my handbags. In fact when the surveyor came to take the final measurements he measured my bags to ensure that they would fit perfectly – now that’s customer service!
What design and bedroom storage inside the wardrobes did you choose?
Everybody knows that I adore sleek, modern lines and minimalist design so it had to be the Cassia in white (or course) with statement black handles. I just loved the simplicity of this design and how it was in keeping with the rest of my interiors. With the fitted wardrobes, dressing table and bedside tables all in this design I just knew that it would create a real statement. On the inside of the fitted wardrobes I opted for double hanging rails to maximise the storage available. We also had drawers and of course the glass shelves incorporated into the final design.
How did you find the installation?
The installation took only a matter of days which was amazing considering the size of the room – the fitter worked really hard to get it done on time. Everything went very smoothly from beginning to end – which was a relief as we had uncovered some pipes and wires when removing our old wardrobes, making it a stressful experience prior to the fitters arriving!
Rest assured when the fitter turned up we knew it was all in hand, he even went above and beyond and hid our TV cable to make the final look seamless. It’s always the finishing touches that matter.
As you can see Carly’s bedroom has been totally transformed into a chic and sophisticated haven that has her signature style written all over it. The fitted wardrobes have created a huge amount of storage space, whilst the dressing table really is an extra special addition to the bedroom. It is unrecognisable from what it was before.
And the final word goes to Carly …
“The finish result has honestly gone far beyond what we could of dreamt. The bedroom is far more usable, the sleek lines of the wardrobes look amazing but best of all is all the extra storage we have now. In Addition to this I absolutely love the glass shelves which are the perfect finishing touch.
Storage is one thing that I think everyone wants more of, but the incredible dressing table area that has been created by removing our old existing wardrobe is what has given the whole room the real wow factor. I feel it’s balanced the room out and given it a much more luxurious feel. I now have my dream bedroom and I couldn’t be happier.
