Why We’re Loving Plants in the Bedroom Lately

Mood board of popular plants for the bedroom

We recently chatted with our bedroom design team about using plants in fitted bedrooms, and it turns out they had a lot of thoughts!

There’s something special about walking into a bedroom and seeing a pop of greenery or a beautiful arrangement of flowers. Fresh flowers are great,  but they don’t last long. For a more lasting sense of calm and cosiness, our designers are big fans of houseplants—they bring more than just looks to the table.

If you’ve ever played around with bedroom styling, you know it’s not just about furniture or throw pillows. Plants are one of those details that can completely shift the mood of a room without making it feel “decorated.”

Some go-to’s? Aloe vera, Peace Lilies, Spider Plants, and the ever-popular Money Plant. All are pretty easy to care for, and they fit right in with a bunch of different bedroom styles.

What Our Designers Think

Julie from our North West team told us, “A simple plant can totally change how a bedroom feels. I love Peace Lilies—the leaves are dramatic, and when they bloom, it’s always a nice surprise. I usually recommend putting them in a spot that gets light, but not too much.”  Julie calls plants the “soft furnishings of the natural world” which, honestly, is a perfect way to put it.

Garry, who’s part of our Midlands team, said, “It doesn’t matter if you’re into clean, minimal spaces or that full-on boho jungle look—plants just work. They bring in texture, colour, and movement. Put a trailing Pothos on a wardrobe or a Peace Lily by your bed, and suddenly the room just feels lived in.”

He added, “Plants are super flexible design-wise. A snake plant looks great in a modern space. A fiddle-leaf fig fits right into a more eclectic room. You can go all out or just add one or two small ones—it’s totally up to you.”

More Than Just Decoration

Of course, it’s not just about looks. We’ve noticed that once we add plants into a room, it instantly feels calmer and more grounded. There’s research out there showing that plants can help reduce stress and anxiety, but even without the science, most people can feel the difference.  Plus, taking care of them—watering, pruning, checking for new growth—becomes this little mindful ritual. It gives you a break from the usual chaos of the day.

Garry mentioned, “We’ve had clients say they sleep better with plants in the bedroom. Others just say they feel happier, it’s like bringing a bit of the outside in. In a world full of screens and constant noise, that makes a big difference.”

The Air Quality Bonus

You’ve probably heard people say plants purify the air. While some of those claims are a bit exaggerated, there’s still truth to it. Snake Plants, Spider Plants, and Peace Lilies can help remove toxins and add humidity to the room. In a space where you’re breathing all night, that can’t hurt.

Even if it’s partly a placebo effect, if it makes the air feel fresher and the space more pleasant—that’s still a win.

A Simple Joy

One thing we don’t talk about enough is how grounding it is to take care of a plant. Wiping dust off its leaves, seeing a new bud appear—it’s a small, quiet joy that makes you feel a little more connected to the present moment.

“When we design bedrooms,” Garry says, “we’re not just thinking about what looks good. We want it to feel good too. Plants help with that. They slow you down in the best way.”

You don’t have to be a plant expert either. Start with something low-maintenance like a ZZ plant or Philodendron. Before long, you’ll probably be giving your Pothos a nickname.

Filling Those Awkward Spaces

From a design point of view, plants are lifesavers. Got an awkward empty corner? A tall plant can instantly make it look intentional. Empty shelf? Try a little succulent or trailing vine.

They’re great for softening the lines in a room too. Bedrooms can sometimes feel a bit boxy so plants can add shape and flow. Mix things up with different sizes: a big fern on the floor, a tiny cactus on a shelf, maybe something hanging by the window. It adds depth without adding clutter.

Final Thoughts: Make It Yours

At the end of the day, your bedroom should feel like your own little escape. Adding something alive, even just a simple plant can help bring that space to life.  We’re big believers in using plants to create a calm, welcoming bedroom. They’re beautiful, but more than that, they help you feel better in your space. Thinking about bringing some greenery into your room? Start with one or two and see how it feels. You might be surprised at the difference.

And if you want help figuring out where they should go, what type of plant works best, or how to make them part of your design—we’re always here to chat about bedrooms, fitted wardrobes and all things floral!
